La Notion de Roman Européen Chez Milan Kundera

Chi ZHANG

Abstract

For Kundera, the “European novel” is not just about the novels created by the Europeans writers, but the novels making part of a history that began at the dawn of Modern Times in Europe. The adjective “European” means for him the novel’s spiritual identity that extends beyond the geographical limits of Europe. The novel is a constant search for the existence of man through imaginary characters. It reveals a new aspect of human existence against the oblivion of being.
