Study on the Linguistic Style of LIN Shu’s Translation

Lihua YANG

Abstract

The application of pre-Qin’s words and syntax, such as monosyllabic words, modal particles, conversion, declarative sentences and passive sentences, made LIN Shu’s translation ancient and elegant. Meanwhile, in his translation there were also frivolous language, vernacular spoken words, and oriental new terms, which disobeyed the rules of ancient Chinese. However, as for these two sides, the ancient elements remained a high proportion and a great number of scholars insist that LINn Shu translated in an ancient Chinese style.
